Lundqvist scratched from Sweden's World Cup opener against Russia
Henrik Lundqvist was scratched from the opener for Sweden against Russia in the hockey World Cup on Sunday.
A spokesman for the team said Lundqvist of Sweden is sick.
Jacob Markstrom led the Swedes on the ice for warm-up, with Jhonas Enroth serving as backup goalie.
Lundqvist has struggled in preparation for the World Cup of Hockey. The 34-year-old took a puck to the ribs earlier this month and two pre-tournament appearances posted a 4.49 goals average and a .778 save percentage.
The New York Rangers goalie has been pulled from Wednesday's game after allowing five goals on 22 shots in a 6-2 loss to the Europe team.
